Day 1: Mabamba Wetlands – Spotting the Elusive Shoebill

Begin your adventure with an early breakfast before heading to the Mabamba Wetlands. Here, you’ll glide quietly through the swamp in a canoe, scanning for the iconic shoebill stork along with other fascinating birds like the Long-tailed Cormorant, Malachite Kingfisher, and Blue-breasted Bee-eater. On your return to Kampala, keep an eye out for vibrant species such as the African Open-billed Stork and Great Blue Turaco. Unwind overnight at 2Friends Beach Hotel, soaking in the peaceful lakeside atmosphere.

Day 2: Journey to Kibale Forest National Park

Your guide will meet you in Entebbe to begin the scenic drive to Kibale Forest, known for hosting Africa’s highest diversity of primates. The route showcases lush green hills and rural landscapes, a perfect introduction to Uganda’s natural charm. In the afternoon, enjoy a Bigodi Swamp walk through grasslands and local villages, where spotting several primate species and colorful birds like the Great Blue Turaco is common. Spend the night in comfort at Turaco or ChimpsNest Lodge.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

After breakfast, embark on a thrilling chimpanzee tracking expedition. Kibale is home to at least 12 primate species, including Red-tailed Monkeys and Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys. The dense forest is alive with birdcalls, offering chances to see spectacular birds amidst the trek. Return to ChimpsNest or Turaco Lodge for a restful evening and tasty dinner.

Day 4: Transfer to Southern Bwindi via Kisoro

Travel through scenic western Uganda, passing the expansive savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park and arriving at the picturesque Kigezi Highlands with views of the Virunga volcanoes. This region’s terraced hills have earned it the nickname “Switzerland of Africa.” Settle in and relax at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge or Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge in preparation for the next day’s gorilla encounter.

Day 5: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today is the highlight of your safari: tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi, one of the few places on earth where these gentle giants can be found. The forest also shelters chimpanzees, diverse primates, and over 360 bird species. Gorilla tracking is an unpredictable adventure that can take anywhere from 2 to 5+ hours through steep, sometimes muddy terrain. Day 6: Return to Entebbe via the Equator
